Year 2016 - THE YEAR OF CRAFTS

Thursday, 12. November 2015

ROK_REMESEL_RGB_1.jpg The Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Crafts of the Czech Republic (AMSP CR) is continuing in its massive offensive effort in support of small sole traders and proclaims 2016 as the YEAR OF CRAFTS. By so doing, we continue on from our “We’re Rooting for Crafts!“ campaign, as part of which we are putting the spotlight on crafts guilds and associations, as well as specific crafts deeds. In this regard, 2016 will be entirely unique and we will present crafts at dozens of events as a key tool for maintaining the level of services accessible to people in the regions and rural areas as well as an interesting choice for the young generation. We will familiarize consumers with how to evaluate the quality of work performed by crafts people, will instigate a professional discussion about the educational system and link it to a discussion of the partial modification of the Trade Act. The primary objective is to bolster society’s perception of crafts, as well as membership in a crafts organisation within the professional community. The activities will be linked closely to AMSP CR’s long-term activity focused on family businesses and the support of business operations in small municipalities and economically weak regions. The word ”craft“ should become the most often used term in 2016.

Business with a Cause

Thursday, 17. April 2014

EU_SME_Centre_Logo_2013_1_1.jpg Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is generally thought of as an add-on to the operations of large multinational corporations looking to improve their image by donating to worthy causes or organising charity events geared more towards the media than the actual beneficiaries. While this might be true in some cases, a recent report published by the EU SME Centre shows how CSR done right can be much more than a marketing tool and can contribute to both social causes and the performance of a company.

The Art of Making Friends

Thursday, 16. January 2014

EU_SME_Centre_Logo_2013_1_1.jpg Business negotiations are a national pastime in China. In a marketplace in which many of the smaller shops do not mark the price on their products, buyer and seller alike have to rely on their wits and bargaining skills to reach an acceptable agreement. Even in China’s booming internet commerce, “face-to-face” negotiations are of vital importance: not one deal is closed on Tabao, China’s largest C2C e-commerce platform, without direct discussions on the details of the transaction via instant messaging services. Essentially, business is done between people, not companies, a fact that differentiates the Chinese business world from the European and causes many of the difficulties European negotiators encounter when dealing with business partners in the market.

Building Rome in a week (or two): The construction sector in China

Thursday, 12. September 2013

EU_SME_Centre_Logo_2013_1_1.jpg With total investment reaching RMB 100 trillion (EUR 12 trillion) in 2012, China’s construction market is enormous and will keep growing quickly in the foreseeable future. Currently, the country is constructing more than one third of all buildings worldwide, with added square meters of living space amounting to the equivalent of a city like Rome in about two weeks and a country like the UK or Spain every single year. A recent sector report published by the EU SME Centre identifies a number of factors indicating that the sector will continue to be one of the main drivers of China’s growth, providing European SMEs offering high-quality products sustainable opportunities in selected niche markets.

An introduction to business laws in China: EU SME Centre launches online law database

Friday, 12. July 2013

EU_SME_Centre_Logo_2013_1_1.jpg Many European companies, particularly SMEs, operating in China are not always aware of some of the most fundamental laws and regulations that affect their business in the marketplace. There are many reasons for this, including language barriers, the lack of in-house expertise and frequent changes in the regulatory environment. The amount of laws has been increasing at a breathtaking rate since China has taken up the task of creating a ‘socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics’ little more than 30 years ago, driven to some extent by the requirements of China’s integration into the global economic order and it’s accession to the World Trade Organisation in 2001.

Due diligence for joint ventures in China

Friday, 31. May 2013

EU_SME_Centre_Logo_2013_1_1.jpg The debate on how best to enter the Chinese market has been going on since China first became a major recipient of foreign direct investment in the 1990s. Even though many foreign companies prefer the relative security and ease of establishing a wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE), joint ventures (JVs) should not be overlooked as a possible mode of entry to the market even for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as partnering up with a local supplier, producer or distributor can offer quick market access, established supply chains and proven distribution channels to newcomers to the market.
